So after a glorious weekend at PAX with Chris I’m happy to report to you all about my favorites from the show starting with this indie gem: Fenix Rage
Fenix Rage is a 2D platformer by Green Lava Studios that’s been in the works for a little over a year by a three guy team from Costa Rica. When I spoke with the developer he said it was inspired by Super Meat Boy and Sonic the Hedgehog where you navigate numerous levels as a high jumping creature to achieve the ultimate prize, a cookie. It’s as simple and awesome as that, get the cookie then hightail it to the blue exit. Ok, so maybe I’m fibbing just a bit on that one, but when you start out it seems like it’s just as simple as that.
As you can see the game is set in a bright interesting world. That’s was probably what initially caught my attention when making my way around the Indie Megabooth. But it’s not just another pretty face, this game is fun, the kind of fun that sucks you in for hours because you want to beat “just one more level” before bed and next thing you know it’s 4am. So obviously the stages don’t stay as easy as the screenshot above portrays. Fenix gears up progressively with the challenge level which to me does a fantastic job of keeping the desire to rage quit at bay.
I’m super excited to see the completed build of this game, and when it’s released I recommend you guys check it out too. Never does it cease to impress me when small teams manage to do such cool work together and I think you’ll appreciate that too when you give Fenix Rage a try.
